This is not very complicated to play and both children love it. As an adult, I do find the controllers are too small and not robust enough for my liking but it works fine for those little hands! Do make sure your child look after the controllers as they are quite small and very easy to drop when they get too excited. The robots are awesome and very responsive to the controllers. This Hexbug Battlebots arena is very well made and it should last for a long time. Do be careful as the detachable magnetic pieces can fly in all directions when they smash together! Both my children have a lot of fun battling one another. It pairs up very quickly and you are ready to battle. The IR remote control has four different channels for you to pair with your robot.
Additional robots (Bronco and Bite Force – not remote controlled) and controllers are bought separately. This can be played with up to four robots. Meanwhile, Witch Doctor comes with a scoop front wedge and spinning vertical disc that will flip and destroy his opponent! Although it doesn’t have any motion detection/sensor on the blade, the blade is not sharp and is quite chunky. Each robot has their own ultimate secret weapon! Tombstone has a rotating blade that will definitely thrash his opponent! If your child accidentally touches the blade while it rotates, it shouldn’t do much harm to their little fingers.
The robots are very well made and each comes with three detachable magnetic pieces that are easy to snap back on. Batteries are included for both the robots and controllers. This set also comes with two infrared (IR) robots (Tombstone and Witch Doctor) and two mini IR remote controls. This is a great size and it fits nicely onto our Ikea coffee table! Fully assemble, it measures 51cm by 51cm by 11cm. The board features authentic graphics just like the television programme. It is straightforward but it does required some strength to slot in all the walls and panels. It did take me some time to put it all together.
Setting up the arena will likely require an adult to do it as assembly of the walls onto the fold-out game board and plastic panels is not very easy.
